Steel Pudding is a "first" anthology of awesome and diverse creative prose and poetry by Gary, Indiana writers* who regularly attend a weekly writer's workshop sponsored by The Gary Historical and Cultural Society (GHCS), and led by master teacher Prof. Sterling Plumpp. GHCS is a 501 c(3) community organization dedicated to the preservation of Gary's rich ethnically diverse culture and history. It was founded in 1976 by Mrs. Dharathula H. "Dolly" Millender, CEO and Gary's ethno-historian.

Although Steel Pudding presents local artists, the book is also amazingly representative of urban writing in general with its contemporary urban, rural and African American themes on topics such as love, racial pride, racism, relationships, sharecropping, spiritual renewal and cultural awakening, and Gary‘s unique steel industry and history.
